Does Calculus AB look bad to colleges?

I am a sophomore at a mainly-IB school. I want to take IB Mathematics SL as a junior, and then as a senior, AP Calculus AB. My school doesn't offer Calc BC. Does it look bad that I just took AB, even though my school doesn't offer BC?

It will not look bad if your school does not offer calc BC. The most competetive colleges want to see you take the most demanding courses available to you. Don’t sweat it. (Also, if you have no interest in majoring in math, engineering or science, then taking Calc AB, rather than BC won’t set you back.)

The thing is, I am very interested in math and science. However, since my school doesn’t have Calc BC, I really don’t have a choice.
Would it really make sense to self-study Calc BC as a senior? And when do people usually take AP Calculus, as juniors or seniors?

well, the majority of people who take calculus never even take it in high school.
However, I’d say that, depending on where you go, AP Calc classes are either mostly seniors with a few juniors or about equal seniors and juniors with a few lower grade level students… You could very easily self study Calc BC if you have good determination… better yet, take calculus II at a community college or something after finishing AB so that you can prep for the BC test… or you can just take AB and will still be fine.
