I’ve been looking for deadline for the mid year report for Caltech and can’t find it anywhere, and mid year update is not on the required application materials either. Does Caltech not require one? (I want my updated marks to do in)
I believe they require them and will send email at some point. My son sent his midterm grades plus an email about some awards that happened in the fall and his winter quarter dual-enrollment classes. He later sent an email with his AMC score.
How did he send his grades/updates @Ynotgo? Email?
@equality4all His high school sent them. I think they sent them automatically, because they use Naviance, which connects to the Common App. He took a couple college courses the fall of senior year, so we had to pay the college to send those.
@Ynotgo Does this apply to students admitted in the EA round too? My S haven’t received any notice about mid-year report, but he did get a notice about Caltech’s requirement that all admittees take all AP exams for the AP classes they take in their senior year even though Caltech doesn’t give any credit.
@1NJParent I’d have your son call admissions next week to ask. I would guess that admitted students just send a final transcript if that is where they decide to attend. But, my son was admitted RD, so I don’t know for sure.
And yes, I remember that message about being expected to take all the AP exams they listed as planned on their application. Note that may not exactly match with the AP classes they are taking for some people.
@Ynotgo My S checked with Caltech. Mid-year report is not required in his case. Thanks.
@Ynotgo did your son have to send his official AP exams?
@errorofthinking If you mean after being admitted, yes.
There was an email or something he received that said that even though Caltech does not give credit for AP tests, it is viewed as part of the Honor Code that you take the AP tests that you listed on your application as planned for this year and then forward your test scores to Caltech in July. (That is, listing but not taking AP tests would be taking unfair advantage of the protofrosh who applied but were not admitted.)
As it happened, he listed 5 tests and took 6. That’s because he ended up learning both Macro and Microecon since he was on the Economics Challenge team for his school.
