Does Case Western actually select by major?

I applied for BME and was deferred, so I’m curious.

I applied BME with a 32 ACT and a 3.95 UW GPA and was accepted. Because the portal doesn’t list any particular major, I do not think majors are considered in the application process. I believe you select your major after the acceptance.

Hi,

I got admitted to CWRU today!!

But regarding the admissions, I am a little confused regarding which major I am admitted to. My first choice is Chemical Engineering, and my second choice is Chemistry. However, the status doesn’t state which major I am admitted to. Is there any way I can find out my admitted major?

If I don’t get admitted to a major, how am I able to major what I am interested in once I join the university?

CWRU does not admit by major. You can declare any major once you finish your first semester. Before that, you don’t have a major.

“The idea that Case has an open door admission policy is very true. If this terminology is new to you, in summary, once you’re admitted to Case, you are admitted to the School of Engineering, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing and School of Management.”

In other words, you should sort of decide which major you are interested in and start taking classes toward that path…but if you soon decide you would prefer Chem E over Chem or visa versa then just swap. Or if you want to add an business class, go ahead, you don’t have to “be in the business school.”

“Students who enroll at Case Western Reserve University as first-year students are expected to declare a major before registering for classes for their fifth semester of enrollment”.
