Hey guys I wanted to know if my gpa goes back to 0 after transferring to cal poly slo, or if it stays. I know UCs reset their GPAs but what about CSUs?

I have the exact same question…hope it does reset :)

I guess the more general question is:

When a transfer student has graduated and you need to list your GPA for jobs and other things, do you list 2 separate GPAs?

(hope I’m not high-jacking the thread - just thought it would be a relevant question about GPAs “resetting”?

For jobs, unless you were specifically asked, you’ll just list the GPA from the university you graduated from. Grad schools will generally ask for both.

@OP, Your GPA at CPP will start over so you get a new start but your CC GPA will still be on record at your CC.

That’s a interesting note. I never knew your GPA resets after transfer. Is this for a majority of UC’s and CSUs?

It’s not that it resets. It would be more accurate to say that you get institutional gpa calculations. That means they don’t count your transferred courses or AP credit toward your quality points at that institution for cumulative gpa purposes.

On a resume, just be sure to label correctly,
Major GPA
Institutional GPA
Cumulative GPA
etc.

Upon transfer to Cal Poly, your CC transfer GPA will become what they called “higher education GPA”. This Higher education GPA will include all of the grades/GPA you have ever received in your entire college career (JC + Cal Poly).

And when you have completed 1 quarter at Cal Poly, you will also received an additional GPA called Cal Poly GPA. This is your GPA for ALL the classes you have taken at Cal Poly only.

Then you also get a Cal Poly Major GPA, this includes the grades of all major classes you have taken in Cal Poly.
