Does Chicago give weight to SAT?

Hi, I'm just wondering how much U Chicago values the SAT. My GPA is not as high as Chicago's average but I do have a high SAT (2280). However, I have heard that Chicago does not give much weight to Test Scores and I was wondering if this is true, since that would mean my relatively lower GPA wouldn't have anything to balance it out.

If anyone knows how much weight Chicago gives to grades vs test scores vs essay, that would help a lot.

Thanks!

If you are in the right range with SATs and GPA then your fine. Essays count the most. Your SAT will help and your GPA should not be a problem if it is in the range for accepted students.

When the rep of UChicago visited my son’s school, she emphasised that essays and grades were more important than SAT. He’s an international applicant though…

They say essays and grades… but my D just got in EA with a 2380 SAT. Her grades were only a 3.7 UW, and her essays were good but not amazing. Her ECs are pretty good, but not fabulous. No hook. And they offered her some merit aid. I think what they say and what they do aren’t necessarily a match…

@intparent - congratulations. 2380 is a great score. My son was deferred, waiting for the RD results. His SAT was ok/ decent, 2200, and GPA 3.9 UW. Essays were decent. Hoping for the best.

Few schools in the top 25 bracket sit there with a magnifying glass focused in on your SAT scores. It’s an important part of many factors, like ECs, grades, coursework, essays, etc. You can’t just assume that if you’re severely lacking in one, the others will make up for it (although, in your case, you’re far from ‘severely’ lacking).

Just consider this rule of thumb: a high SAT won’t get you in anywhere, but a low SAT will.
And by low I mean <2100; they know that the difference between a 2280 and a 2350 is literally a negligible 1-4 questions.
