Depends on the amount of debt.
Depends on accounting or finance.
SMU has a famously strong alumni base, but for accounting, prestige matters not one whit.

To be honest, neither school has a high academic prestige.
^really unnecessary. He said “more prestigious “ and yes, that is a valid summation of the situation.
Both schools are well respected and I believe the advice here to not go in debt is wise.
Texas Tech worked out pretty well for President LBJ.
And I do personally think SMU has an really excellent and well thought of academic reputation. Especially in Texas.
Congrats on such great choices. You should be commended for your hard work and effort. Good luck.
It’s hard to love a school you can’t afford. Prestige is completely overrated and rankings are completely unreliable. You’ll find that you can get just as many job opportunities going to a state school as a prestigious private school.
@privatebanker is right, SMU is very highly regarded in Dallas. And has a very strong, and connected alumni network. My son went to the business school there. Look into the requirements for admission to that school. His year you needed a 3.3 to be admitted (just because you are at SMU doesn’t mean you can get admitted to the business school). The year after him they raised the bar to a 3.5 GPA to be admitted.
Also, a lot of the alumni network comes from fraternities (I don’t necessarily agree with this, but it’s a reality).
It worked out well for my son, who got a job at an investment bank after graduation. However I am not saying the OP should attend one school or the other, just trying to provide a little color on SMU.
It has been almost two weeks since I have posted, I am very thankful for everyone who has commented their own thoughts/opinions. I still have yet to decide upon where it is that I will be attending next year, I still do not know exactly what it is that I want to study (Finance or Accounting). From what I am seeing, Tech is the better option for accounting because of their five year program and they are well connected with big four (+90% job placement rate) where as if I were to pursue finance (specifically Investment Banking) it looks to be like SMU would be better with their connection abilities post graduation.
