Hello,

I'm currently a freshman in high school and I did extremely bad my freshman year ;

AVID - A
PE - B
Honors Bio - C
Spanish - B
Geometry - B
English - B

And I have a feeling my second semester, or final grades will come out similar to my first semester. And, I was wondering, does Columbia factor in freshman grades for consideration an acceptance to the school?

Columbia, as most colleges do, factor in all high school grades. One important thing to note; however, is that colleges look at the trend. If you say have all A+s in your senior year, that is a good trend, and you may have a good chance, that being said, it is important to maintain as high a Gpa as possible.

Yes, they do. Try your best and get straight A’s from now on, and you might be okay.

Yeah, I had the same concerns awhile ago. I contacted the adcom and she told me that they do consider freshman grades as well as freshman ecs “with value.” However, so far, I know that Princeton and Stanford do not consider your freshman year GPA when deciding. I got that from a Princeton soon to be sophomore. But anyway, after I contacted the adcom and she told me that, I felt that I was pretty much screwed at that part, because my school didn’t offer any clubs or ecs except for student council, and we never did anything on that either. But they said they wouldn’t be too hard on me because my previous school didn’t have ecs. My GPA is a 3.8 for the freshman year, and I’m going into 10th. I think you’ll be ok. Just work for straight As from now on! They love to see trends, remember that. you got this!
