Freshman Year Grades??

Hi! So I am a international freshman at high school, and recently we received our 1st semester grades. I am in IB, thus the curriculum is very rigorous. I got, when converted to american letter grades:
A+ Art
A- Chinese
A- Science
A- Math
A- French
A- PE
A- CT
B+ English
B+ History
The problem is, I had 4 borderlines in which I could have received a higher grade.

I am going to be applying to Columbia. Also, I am a fencer (I know that Columbia is well known for their strong fencing team)

I was just wondering if Columbia (Or any other Ivy League school+ Stanford) Would look at my b+ in english in freshman year, and whether that would be a HUGE detriment for my likelihood of attending.

Of course they wouldn’t be a huge detriment; however, they do look at them. But don’t worry that wouldn’t be the ONLY reason if you weren’t accepted. Those are good grades and a lot of classes. Good job.

thank you! so if i improve dramatically, get straight a’s from now on and continue working hard in fencing, would i have a good chance of being accepted? (Sorry, I am veryvery paranoid about this, as I’m getting a lot of pressure from my older sister’s good grades:D)
