Does committing to the school lower my chances of getting a scholarship?

It seems that scholarships may be awarded to students as an incentive to come to their school. If I commit to the school already, what interest do they have in taking less money from me? Should I wait before committing?

If you applied EA, Priority or regular decision and wish to compare scholarships and/or FA packages and even return to the school to see about getting more, then don’t commit right away. You don’t want to lose your bargaining power and there is no downside to waiting (unless you want housing but you can take care of that at UMN just by sending in that housing application now).

If you applied ED anywhere and are accepted, then different story. You are contractually bound to enroll and withdraw your applications from other schools, even if you aren’t thrilled with the FA package.

If you have been accepted to CSE with your gpa and ACT I would not be expecting any merit as an OOS.
