Confused about EA

I have heard that if FA/scholarships are important to you in your decision to attend a school, you should not try to apply early. Does this mean for Early decision (binding) or also Early Action like Michigan offers?

It seems that applying Early Action would be a good thing to do to help with your chances for acceptance, but I don't want to do it if it will affect the prospect of my having a chance at scholarships. As an OOSer the FA package is going to be a huge (probably the single most important factor if I were so lucky as to be accepted). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Michigan is different as when you are admitted does not affect your FA/scholarships as long as you are admitted before the FA deadline. UM’s scholarships priority deadline is the deadline for Early Action so it would be beneficial to apply EA. EA at UM is non-binding. You will also be offered a quicker FA if you were admitted EA as well.
