Does Cornell offer more financial aid to prospective freshmen...?

And then lowers it as your years go on through Cornell?

The one thing my parents are worried about in terms of money is that Cornell may offer more cash now to entice me to attend, but in the future lower their relative offer once I'm in the college.

Is this just my parents being paranoid or is there some truth to this?

you're re-evealuted each year and financial aid is dependant on family inome, taxes, fafsa, etc. it doesnt matter how long you go to cornell or anything like that

my parents have sent four kids through cornell and they say basically everytime the financial aid package skyrocketed after freshmen year...

Did the amount of aid offered increase, or the price of attendance?

Cornell has offered me a grand total of $600 for my first year. Dartmouth is offering $19000. From what I have read, it seems likely that I can present my Dartmouth offer to Cornell for them to potentially match it. If they do in fact match it, is it likely that it will remain fairly stable in subsequent years?

I've found Cornell to be equally stingy in each of my three years.

if they sent 4 kids thru then perhaps it was that after freshman year someone left school?

i.e. 1 is a sr as another was a freshman

that would considerably change the EFC on the fafsa

I've seen the aid drop significantly and from people I talk to it's a similar story. My freshmen year I had to take about 9 grand in external loans, which increased each year to about 15 on the fourth year. That's outstrips the increase in tuition and doesn't even include the subsidized federal loans.

They were fairly generous to me this year.

When I talked to financial aid before enrolling, they told me that as long as your financial situation remains unchanged, your package should not change significantly.

Hopefully this is the case...
