Does Dartmouth Send Likely Letters?

That was the email invitation to a video chat about Dimensions, I think. I saw the email too before I got a likely letter in the mail.

I got a likely letter in the mail earlier this week. I sent my application in in late december.

I also sent my application in pretty late…like two days before the deadline, which was why I was pretty surprised at receiving a likely letter. I wonder if this means they have reviewed most applications already.

Congrats guys! Is D your first choice?

I think Stanford is my first choice, but I was deffered. But Dartmouth is a very close second choice, so I would be very delighted to go there!

To those that got the likely letter, did you have all your financial aid docs in, including returns. Do they wait for that if you had indicated you need financial aid? Just curious.
Congrats to all that got the letters or will get one.

do they get here according to location? so do the letters for those on the west coast (cali) arrive later?!? ahhh i want one soo bad D:

@collegegirl: no, I haven’t sent in this year’s tax returns or any of the IDOC stuff yet… but I did send in the FAFSA and the CSS Profile.

I received a likely letter today…I was also admitted to Yale EA. Dunno what’s going on, exactly.

Gah I’m so jealous of you guys. Is there a chance that it would be a day later for Ohio just because of mail delivery?

If you guys could post your hook that would be awesome

@ HYPhoper:
Several posts I’ve seen say that they come in waves, so I think there’s still hope that we Ohioans might be lucky enough get a letter in the next week or two.

Unfortunately, my interview was pretty late, so its pretty unlikely they’ve gotten to my app :[

@Thickfreakness, I don’t think they considered the interviews when making the likely letters. The date for the letter was February 12, but I just had my interview yesterday.

@HYPhoper, I’m a first-generation black female that attends an inner-city school with a less than 50% graduation rate. I have a SAT superscore of 2200 and have performed research at a local lab for two years, participating in a research program with the NIH last summer. Also, I did the Dartmouth Bound weekend in the summer, so that might have helped since they already had an extra essay and knew a little more about my background.

But besides that, no national awards or anything else that sets me apart.

stridegumisbest: I live in California (Bay Area) and got mine in the mail today. I think if you received the e-mail about the web chat with links to the class of 2014 webpage and the PS with add Dimensions to your calendar then you should be receiving a letter if you haven’t.

so if we haven’t received the e-mail about the webchat today, does that mean we’ll never get the likely letter? do the e-mails come in waves too?!?

Let’s hope so :)

My daughter received the letter today via email. We live in Colorado. She is very excited. She is not a recruited athlete. Her interview was last Tuesday so I am not sure that the interview had any impact, but she really enjoyed the interview. She got to meet with two alumni and they had a great conversation. Congratulations everyone!

Remember that MOST accepted students do not get likely letters. Including those with Presidential Scholar-level SATs and national and state awards and the like.

Don’t get too worked up about it if you haven’t gotten one. :)

Superaznnerd-- I Sent this in private message, but I’m not entirely sure it went through, so here

Hey, thanks.
During my Junior year, I ran a 1:56.1 open 800m, and I split 1:55 a few times in a 4x800, and ran a 4:23 mile. Senior year so far, I’ve hit a 2:32 1000m.

The schools that I applied to and talked to the coach were Dartmouth, Tufts, Wash U in St.Louis, and Cornell. I did official overnight visits at Dartmouth and Tufts and I had had one scheduled for Wash U but I got my Likley the day before I went so I canceled the trip. I only got a likely from Dartmouth.

The Tufts coach seemed to like me a lot, and I was on the faster end of his recruits. He said he would do all he could to help me with admissions. I had gotten the idea that he couldn’t guarantee anyone admission, but he had some influence.

I’m not sure if a coach from a strong D1 school would pull for a mediocre runner, but I think a coach from a D3 school might help you out. A lot of the recruits that had stayed overnight at Tufts when I was there were around 2:00 800m and probably around 4:30 mile. I had spoken a tiny bit with the NYU coach in the begining of the year, and I have another runner friend who had spoken to him and had gotten in ED. I’m not sure the extent that the coach helped him out, but here are his stats,
1000 Meter Run - 2:39.90
1000 Yard Run - 2:31.00
800 Meter Run - 2:01.80
400 Meter Dash - 53.39
300 Meter Dash - 38.75
300 Yard Dash - 36.94
600 Meter Dash - 1:32.70

Are you a Senior? If so I would send out e-mails/ phone calls ASAP

got my likely…muy bueno

Congrats to everyone who got their letters!

Ahhh now I’m a bit anxious! I hope I get one in the mail. I haven’t really heard much at all from Dartmouth - not an interview either, even though I turned in my app the second week of December. I hope this isn’t a bad sign… Dartmouth is my number one choice. ) :
