Does EA not help!?!?

Hi, I read on umich admissions site that is isn't easier to get into Michigan EA.

Q:"Is it easier or harder to be admitted through Early Action?"

A:"All applications are reviewed using the same standards regardless of when they are submitted."

is it or is it not easier to get in EA?

Would you rather have your app reviewed with the percentage of kids that apply EA or with all of the kids that apply which is what regular decision becomes…everyone that applied EA and were deferred plus everyone that applied after the deadline for EA? That’s a very individual decision. In-state kids have long traditions of applying early and in-state high schools make sure they do. That said we have friends whose in-state kid applied at the last minute as a last minute decision was accepted. And some OSS kids apply after hearing from ED schools or add Michigan at the last minute, etc. The decision is individual and only you can make that decision.

I go to a public school in NY. So pretty much you are saying that it is up to me to choose?

It can’t hurt. No one (that I’ve ever heard of in the last few years) gets “rejected” EA. They either get accepted or they get deferred.

Case 1, it’s easier to get in EA and you should then apply EA.

Case 2, it’s harder to get in EA and it doesn’t matter when you apply, you have the same chances either way.

thank you. I have one more question. My brothers friend applied EA and he was deferred. Then he found out on April 27th that he was wait listed. Would you happen to know if it is easier to get in rolling admissions than being deferred to regular decision?

EA is your best option, why not apply early and get notified early? It is to your advantage to do EA.

I don’t think there’s any appreciable difference in likelihood of admission at any time. Nothing above the amount of randomness that already exists in college admissions. I’d say applying earlier will never hurt you, applying later might but is unlikely to hurt you.

Thank you so much!!!
