I’m old enough to remember when the American tabloids covered the lives and loves of the children of Prince Ranier and Princess Grace, and of course Grace’s tragic death. Albert has had about 4 paternity suits against him, resulting in two of those being acknowledged to be his children. And I remember stories at the time of his wedding to Charlene that claimed she was trying to flee and was in tears. There have been hints that she has physical and mental health challenges but they seem to keep a pretty tight lid on it. Hopefully that means they give her needed support in private.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was included in the reasons. He’s wanted to escape for a long time, certainly since before he met his wife.
Much more than hints. Unlike the British Royals, Albert and Charlene do talk to the media, and they have both addressed her health issues. Whether they were 100% forthcoming is a different question (short answer- they weren’t - and that’s OK by me). But there was massive speculation in the French and Italian media on her extended absence from Monaco as well as speculation on the conditions of her return. Not to the level of UK media, but certainly much more than made it across the pond.
I’m hoping he addresses his feelings about Camilla, and all that was involved concerning her.
I hope he doesn’t. Enough already!
My mother happened to be in England for the 25th anniversary of Elizabeth on the thrown. My mother said she didn’t really understand the hype until she was there and then it was really fun and fascinating.
My mother died recently and in cleaning out some things, I found the program and several other trinkets from the event. My mother moved about 8 times since then and this packet of stuff came along every move.
I think the Royal family is fun but they have to promote themselves for us to stay interested. The weddings on TV, the posing with babies on the hospital steps, the balcony waves. The public needs to be included to make the public expenditure worth it.
When Harry and Meghan didn’t want to pose with the baby, the public felt left out. They wouldn’t reveal who the godparents were. Then they were surprised when the media ‘speculated’ on things (made them up) or went to other sources like her friends and father.
Given Camilla’s lunch party with Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson I don’t imagine he needs to tell us what he thinks of her.
And for the record, I agree with him.
I can’t take what you are saying here seriously. Do you genuinely believe that CPB would attend a luncheon with Clarkson and Morgan if she wasn’t just fine with their beliefs as well as their public statements? Do you also think that senior royals go to lunch with people who haven’t been thoroughly vetted?
It’s documented that Camilla has been personal friends with Clarkson for some time.
That’s probably overstating, although perhaps not in Jeremy Clarkson’s mind. More likely they’ve attended some parties in the past and snuck outside for a cigarette.
Possibly, but it seems to me to be a distinction without a difference. My point is that it just isn’t credible that a senior royal would publicly associate with anyone who openly and regularly disparages another senior member in print and on television unless she and the entire firm are in agreement.
I think the bridges are burned and that Harry needs to accept that the people he thought were his loving family only valued him as a means to distract the public from what the “important “ members were really doing behind the scenes. It’s really sad but certainly confirms every significant charge made against the institution in the documentary.
Or they like to keep their friends close and their enemies closer…
I enjoyed the series

I know some who post here will pass on anything with Harry & Meghan, but for those who find their endeavors interesting, you may want to check out their upcoming docuseries (Dec 31st).

I have read (not in the tabloids) that the Queen offered them a relevant job in southern Africa. I vaguely remember that it was in Botswana, a country which Harry is said to love. They refused it.
Incidentally, for a forum which purports to be non political, much of the commentary here about the royal family is just that. The monarch is the head of state and the senior members of the family support that work. As others have said, various members over 2 or 3 generations have lived quietly following their various careers.
They mention the different countries they thought about going to, and Africa had been discussed for awhile, as was New Zealand. Then the media got wind of it and all discussions ceased. That was my take away from the series. The series did not delve into why talks stopped.
I watched a piece on what Fergie and Andrew went through with the press. The similarities with Andrew and Harry were there, but Meghan and Fergie very different personalities and ways of dealing with the press.
But really, H&M had it easy with the press and the family. The difference I saw was that Fergie and Andrew were desperate to be the center of attention at all times, but the press was just mean. H&M wanted to be the center of attention at times but then wanted to shut it off until they were ready to shine again.
The clips explained that Harry doesn’t understand the Rota. It is the press pool and that one or two reporters cover an event and then share the interviews and pics. Of course there are outside press that follow them but those are not part of the Rota.
The press on these clips (except Piers Morgan, who used to be friendly with Meghan but now hates her) said she was really well liked at the beginning, through her wedding. Everyone thought her clothing was gorgeous and that she was intelligent.
I missed it in the Netflix piece, but Harry said they’d been planning for 2 years to leave royal duties and England. If correct, that was the time of their wedding until they left.
It was South Africa. And it was for a year or two. Allegedly.
It was reported in the press, including the mainstream press, a couple of years ago since it was a claim made in a book, “Battle of Brothers: William and Harry - the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult” by royal correspondent Robert Lacey. Harry mentioned a plan to move to South Africa in the documentary.
Apparently, you didn’t watch the documentary. Harry was very interested in going to live and work in South Africa until that plan appeared in the press. Once it did, the firm took it off the table.
You may be referring to my posts when you talk about them being “political”.
If so, I’m not sure how pointing out the actual history of the Royal family over the past several centuries is political.

I hugely disagree with this statement. The family has worked with the tabloid press ( which sadly seems to include nearly all British media) to plant inaccurate and nasty stories about Meghan in particular in order to keep the nefarious activities of other members of the family from being reported.
I don’t agree with this. Even the press says that if the family fed them stories about Meghan to detract attention from another royal, the press would have printed both stories. THAT I believe.
I know Harry said they couldn’t go forward with the South Africa move once the press found out, but I don’t agree with his view. Why would the Firm care if the press found out? The press was going to find out once H&M moved, so it couldn’t be a secret for too long. Many businesses like to keep things on the down low in the planning stages, but if word gets out it doesn’t end the whole project. I think a lot of this was happening right when covid broke out and travel was limited. Even if they’d received permission to move to New Zealand that spring I doubt they would have been able to.
The next series they have planned for Netflix seems to be a better fit for their world goals. No need for this one about how wronged they were and how unfair the family was to them, just get on with the series of famous leaders, climate issues, the causes they want to promote.
I don’t have an issue with Harry and Meghan leaving royal life and them making more money independently than they could have made being working royals. Don’t like the position, the rules, the way you are treated? Move on. Which they did. They just can’t seem to get over it.
