It’s crazy they are complaining about their privileged life in today’s cost of living crisis times, very out of touch with real people.
There’s an aspect of the Harry/Meghan story that is extremely relevant to everyone, which is the use of social media for “hate for profit” enterprises. I’m interested in hearing more about the work done by Christopher Bouzy of BotSentinel. BotSentinel has 3 reports on its website that I find extremely interesting. Here’s a summary from the Overview section of report #3:
On October 20, 2021, we released one of three reports on single-purpose hate
accounts targeting Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The initial
report outlined how fewer than one hundred single-purpose hate accounts were
responsible for approximately 70 percent of the original and derivative hate-filled
content targeting Harry and Meghan on Twitter.
On November 1, 2021, we released our second report to show how single-purpose
hate accounts strategically targeted and interacted with specific journalists and
royal commentators to amplify their conspiracy theories and increase their
exposure. We concluded that nine out of the ten prominent Twitter accounts that
primarily cover the royal family, in fact, had interacted with at least one of the 84
hate accounts we were monitoring. On at least one occasion, we could link a
conspiracy theory shared by a single-purpose hate account to an award-winning
journalist and author, who then amplified the conspiracy theory on Twitter and TV.
This third and final report will demonstrate how single-purpose hate accounts
coordinate on several platforms, use Twitter to spread disinformation, circulate
conspiracy theories on YouTube, and monetize their hatred. We will illustrate how
single-purpose hate accounts have turned targeted harassment and coordinated
hate campaigns into a lucrative hate-for-profit enterprise.
We will prove how one of the most well-known hate accounts, that uses the
moniker “Yankee Wally,” helped start one of the first anti-Meghan hate groups
online and is in communication with Samantha Markle, Meghan Markle’s half-sister.
We will show also how Yankee Wally is buying fake Twitter accounts in bulk to
continue her anti-Meghan hate campaign.
This report will explore who is behind some of the most popular hate accounts and
examine how they leverage their popularity into lucrative YouTube-dependant
incomes.
We will provide statistics and estimated earnings for some of these YouTube hate
channels and a list of the most popular anti-Meghan YouTube hate channels.
That’s a low bar.
People are assuming that the news overload about H&M is solely or primarily because H&M are behind all the publicity. But you’re also hearing about them because of coordinated for profit efforts to promote negative stories about them. In case you’re wondering what is a “single purpose hate account” : https://twitter.com/cbouzy/status/1600091871052603393?s=20&t=bcComUJMAQsETSQy7S4k2w
I found their decision to leave royal life, interesting. I find it hard to believe that anyone, in light of the numerous books, series, docudramas and documentaries on the royal family, could not have had an inkling of what royal life and service would be like. Meghan didn’t even give it that long before she decided she had had enough. This makes me think that her agenda from the beginning was to lure Harry to the US.
She could have played the whole thing differently - acted more gracious, looked less miserable in public and could have possibly become a beloved part of the royal family (of course there are those who would never accept an American as a spouse to one of the princes). Harry is (or was) very liked by the British, so I feel like they would have made an effort to accept her.
I will watch it because I am fascinated by the royal life (not the tabloid stuff as much as the duties and historical significance), and reportedly, H&M fought with Netflix over airing certain parts of the documentary (and Netflix won), so that might be interesting.
I don’t think Meghan’s acting career was fruitful enough to net her any big payouts or royalties but the two of them could easily sustain their lifestyle getting paid for appearances & speeches.
I won’t be watching because I have no interest in that kind of television.
I don’t understand the source of all the animosity towards this couple. I’m a big fan of the Royal Family. I was very sad when the Queen died. Generally, they represent a cultural institution that has done a lot of good and, IMO, helps keep the United Kingdom united. However, I don’t think there’s any doubt that Meagan was the target of racism. Harry loves his wife. They love each other, clearly. Why would they stick around to be treated poorly? Why would they want their kids to grow up in that environment?
They have to make money somehow. As for spilling dirty secrets, I’m not a fan of that, but no one seemed quite as critical when Diana did the same thing. But here’s the deal: Diana, Harry and Meagan all have a right to tell the truth. I don’t blame any of them. Even Fergie wasn’t treated well. Camilla was treated poorly for a long time, until she married Charles. Kate is a lovely person and appears to have escaped criticism so far.
Don’t treat people like poop, because it’s instinctive to want to clear one’s name and tell the whole story. I am sure Meagan was naive, but that doesn’t make her a bad person deserving of vitriol. I can’t imagine ANYONE is surprised that the Royal Family, for all the good they do, and who are probably good people at heart, are probably not the most welcoming to people who come from vastly different backgrounds. And I also think they can be quite harsh when people, especially women, make a misstep.
Just finished the first three episodes. Literally, 30 seconds into it I considered stopping, but I’m really glad I stuck with it.
I am not a big fan of the royals but would wake up for the big weddings and such. I was interested in hearing their side and being my own judge. I left with a slightly improved impression of them. They do a good job of showing how their individual interests were similar before they ever met, and it makes sense that they would be attracted to each other. Mainly I learned a lot of how the whole firm works and British colonialism. I absolutely believe that she could’ve married into this family and not really understood what she was getting in to. And it’s language like Meghan “luring” Harry to the U.S., making her sound nefarious, that is part of the problem.
Also, I hope no one thinks racism isn’t a player in the whole saga. That alone makes me sympathetic to them as a couple.
I will eventually watch the series. I’m not one who follows or has much interest in “celebrity news”. (Never watched a single episode of reality tv like the Kardashians, Real Housewives, etc.) However I will watch the Netflix Harry and Meghan series, for two reasons.
-
It’s been difficult to ignore the vitriol directed at them (more so at MM) in the news and social media and I frankly don’t get it. One doesn’t have to like or even agree with their choices, but the relentless judgmental aspersions has piqued my interest.

I’ve listened to all but the last Meghan Markle Archetypes podcasts. While she does have strange inflections to me, the content of what she says is thought provoking. She is between myself and my daughter’s age. I appreciate her perspective. I like to ponder the evolution of stereotypes and appreciate those willing to share their experiences. Also I’ve enjoyed the guests she’s had on her podcasts.
Anyway, my point is that I prefer to make my own opinions so I’ll watch and see if anything resonates with me.
I don’t watch these kind of shows ever. I didn’t watch the one they did with Oprah. Not an Oprah person, I even refused to watch her when I was even younger.
I hope they don’t hold back, but I imagine it’ll be laundered a bit.
The Queen probably would not have been a fan – I wonder if that’s why they waited.
I felt the same way. Actually a bit more sympathetic toward them and her, but I still feel apprehensive of her.
I don’t think she had ulterior motives when marrying into the family. I believe how horrid the press was. What I don’t understand is why she wants to throw the family under the bus, when she knows what it’s like to be estranged from Family.
The first 3 episodes aren’t necessarily “dishy”, but trying to make us understand the machinations within the institution. A few brow raising comments, but I think those are mostly being kept for next week.
I think she fibs sometimes. Also, it makes me cringe when she calls him “H”.
I think she can play the race card for so long but what happened to her father, why didn’t she invite anybody in her mom’s family to the wedding, why was Oprah invited instead.
The wedding invites are addressed.
I didn’t watch the videos, but everytime I see her on TV, I see an actress acting like when she’s at the Queen’s funeral.
Spoilers:
-
What makes her unlikeable and hurts “her cause”, for lack of a better word, is bringing up specific meetings with people and naming names. Why insinuate William and Kate are cold and formal? They are meeting her for the first time. Lots of people aren’t huggers, even Americans. So she’s sort of slamming them and Brits all in one swoop.
-
That ridiculous mockery of her doing a curtsy in front of the Queen. She acted like she didn’t know what to do, poor thing. Yet I’m sure she’s seen a curtsy before on TV and she said she googled the national anthem. Google it. Or ask Harry. The “I don’t know” just rings false to me.
I think it was lousy she didn’t insist her niece could be invited to the wedding.
I think the final 3 episodes will be more slamming the courtiers and how they run the media and the royal family.
Good question. They address her fathers side, but I don’t recall her mother’s.
The Mail is a racist toxic rag.
I think that Meghan is an opportunist. She wasn’t even an A-list Hollywood actress. She was on a TV show that hardly anybody watched.
All of their talk about wanting to escape the royal family is just that…talk. They really do NOT want to live a quiet, normal life. They still want to live a life of luxury and oppulence. And they’d like UK citizens to continue paying for their security detail. When they got married, I thought that then-Prince/now-King Charles was very welcoming and gracious to Meghan. And now she and her buffoon of a husband are basically thumbing their nose at King Charles.
As for not knowing or understanding what the rules/protocol/etiquette is around the British national anthem…Google is your friend, Meghan. And ask your fiance/husband. And if he didn’t know, ask HIS main personal assistant.
Rumors have flown all over the Internet since the wedding re: Meghan’s treatment of staff. If those rumors are true, then yeah, Meghan is really not a nice person and she doesn’t have any class.
When she got married, I thought it said a lot that pretty much the only close friends or family of hers who were invited or went was her mother. And all of Meghan’s “friends” who attended were big time celebrities. Realistically, come on…how close were you REALLY with Oprah and Beyonce BEFORE you got engaged to Prince Harry?
I’m not going to watch one minute of their TV series. Not going to watch one thing where either of them is narrating something.
There are plenty of ways to truly live a quiet and normal life. They are doing everything that is the opposite of that. Their stupid Oprah interview that showed the dumb chickens and their “sustainable agriculture”? Puh-leeze. How much are they paying a gardener to tend to the chickens and the stuff they’re growing. And don’t lecture us about saving the planet when out there in the background of your Oprah interview, we can see all of that green grass that you’re growing, when Lake Mead (which provides a lot of the water you use to water that grass) is super low.
Hey Meghan - you want to lecture us about climate change? Stop using private jets. Do like your BIL & SIL have done in the past and take commercial flights. Change all of your landscaping at your mansion estate to native plants. Get rid of all of your grass and use all of that space to grow all of your own food. Set up water harvesting on every building of your stately Montecito compound. Quit wearing designer clothes and switch to only organic cotton. I could go on and on.
Both of them are hypocrites. And spoiled. Oh, you think you 2 have it SO HARD? Go talk to some of the homeless people in Santa Barbara, basically in your backyard, and find out what real hardship is like. Go talk to some people who have had to go through the foster care system. They’ll tell you what real hardship is like.
Yeah, I kinda don’t get it either. And I thought none of that vitriol would exist in College Confidential. I’m so sad to have been proven wrong.
So he shouldn’t love her because of that?
