And her mother wasn’t killed by the paparazzi, either.
And she was born in 1950. It wasn’t until 2013 that they ended first born male preference. She was raised in a different era with a different world view.
Neither the Duke of Edinburgh’s nor the Queen’s will will ever be made public, so no one will know for sure. Speculation in the tabloid that everyone loves to hate is that Prince Andrew did indeed inherit cash from the Queen and that he’s planning on using it to somehow litigate against the settlement he made with Ms. Giuffre. He might want to wait until her book comes out…
I read an article about the tiaras. Most will remain with the crown as the taxes on them transferring would be too high, but the Queen indicated certain people who get to wear them (Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara) if they want to. She didn’t want any to be owned by Camilla because she didn’t want Camilla to pass them on to her own daughter permanently. Would this hold up if Charles doesn’t want to lend out the tiaras? I doubt it but why would he care really?
They will. Just not in our lifetime; they’re sealed for 90 years.
Perhaps that is part of the problem in Harry’s victimization mode. Diana’s death was a tragic and preventable event. If she had professional security, either hired by herself or provided by the RF ( and it was offered), she would have lived. The press were following her with cameras, not Uzis. One doesnt drive dangerously just to avoid a photo. One doesnt have a drunk driver. And one does wear a seatbelt, which saved the life of the one person in the crash using one. Yes, the press contributed to her death, but so did her own paranoia and actions regarding security.
A google search also reveals that both women receive dresses " on loan" from designers. So while they technically do not own them, many are not purchased either. As you say, easily researched
Anne never looked like someone who cares much about dolling up and attracting media attention, even though she was born and raised a princess, didn’t suddenly become one like Camilla, Diana, Kate or Meghan as an adult.
actually, there are different articles that say different things regarding the acceptance of “loaned” clothing. I don’t doubt that pre-marriage Meghan received clothes on loan and she may now since she is not a senior working royal. I don’t think Kate does, but honestly, who knows?
Here is gift link to the NY Times article that isn’t behind paywall:
There you go. I’ve used the gift function to link the article.
Honestly, I refuse to engage anymore with anyone who hasn’t actually read the book itself. I’ve only just finished it myself and it’s so clear that all the excerpts that have been strewn across the media sphere are being purposely put out without context. They land very differently when read in the book as a whole.
Finally, all I can say is that if I ever find myself on the same side as Jeremy Clarkson, Piers Morgan, and The Daily Mail on any subject I will have to seriously reassess my own judgment. As badly as I feel for Harry and Meghan, at least they’ve escaped. The ones I really would worry about are George, Charlotte, and Louis.
I guess Kate thinks it’s worth it.
We don’t need to worry about Willam or Harry’s children, they are better off than almost all human population. There are literally billion other children who really need us to worry about them and act for their survival.
By your reasoning we should never worry about any children of our own, either. After all, the children on CC are better off than nearly all the earth’s population.
My kids aren’t getting death threats either.
Confessing he got high on laughing gas during Meghan’s labor with Archie…
I didn’t dare post today’s the story in the DM about the rising use of nitrous oxide, so here is a link to the BMJ
Your kids are your responsibility.
Coincidentally (or not), the British government is now considering restricting the sale (and potentially criminalizing the misuse) of nitrous oxide:
Another reason for Harry to stay in California…
At the birth of his daughter (in the US), Harry states the he did NOT indulge in “laughing gas”…then adds cheekily that it wasn’t even an option.
Harry is pretty open in the book about his use of drugs to cope with anxiety. He even admitted that when a news reporter called his press office asking for comment on a rumor that he had done cocaine at a party, he lied and denied it.
Lying to the press is a pretty good way to make their coverage more hostile. Expecting your staff to lie to the press on your behalf is a pretty good way to make them quit…
…at least in the UK (eg see the defenestration of Boris Johnson). Some Americans seem to be a lot more tolerant of outright lies from celebrities and politicians and critical of any non-fawning press reporting about them. Elon Musk and his fan base are a good example.
So say we all believe everything Harry and Meghan say, and adopt their view of events. We all agree they had every right to leave, that the press are horrible to them in ways they’ve been to no other royal. That it is very very unfair that he was second born and that William gets everything and he gets very little. That they family is in bed with the British press and planting stories about Meghan to take the glare off Andrew, and all were involved, even the Queen?
Now what? What does he want us to do? Somehow make things right? How? Stop supporting the British papers until they go out of business? (um, American here, never bought one British rag, and I don’t buy People or InTouch) Don’t watch the coronation so that the royal family feels shunned? (even if he might attend the coronation himself). Boo and hiss at William and Kate whenever we see them?
What does he want? He says to state his side. He’s done that. He says he has even more to share (really, 500 pages wasn’t enough?). There is a point where he has to accept he’s had enough time to present his side - Oprah, Netflix, Spare, talk shows…
