I'm planning on sending an "activities list" with my apps. Would it help, hurt, or not affect my chances if I listed travel experience (I have recently gone to Norway, Sweden, and Japan)?

I don't think regular travelling would affect anything. Perhaps going abroad for a semester, living abroad, volunteering abroad might help. Just visiting countries as a tourist should not have any impact.

Thanks. Brown specifically asks applicants to list travel experience, but I wasn't sure about other places. I didn't go as a tourist, though, since I have family in all those countries and am a dual Norwegian-American citizen.

Then it could possibly be of importance.

This subject makes me a little crazy as there are a lot of people who think that foreign travel like going on a cruise to Greece or a tourist expedition through Italy would have some impact- that's not even really visiting or experiencing anything.

I thought listing these trips might make me seem spoiled and rich (which I definitely am not), even though we just went to visit my mom's family in Europe and my brother and family friends in Japan. The trips were also pretty long, as I was in Japan for more than a month and was able to experience more of the country than I could have in a week or so.

Since many students do not have the financial resources for significant world travel, this part of your application carries very little weight unless you can write a meaningful essay on what you have learned from your travels.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I didn't even considered mentioning my trips until I saw that Brown asked for a list of "memorable trips or experiences". Macalester also asks applicants to list their travel experience, except only for stays lasting more than a few months, which doesn't apply to any of my trips.

I agree. If the trips were meaningful it might be interesting to list them, especially if you spent an extended amount of time doing interesting things. Otherwise it could definitely give off the wrong impression. I left off most of my travel from my application because of that.
