I am a sophomore in high school and got a couple more B's than I hoped for as a freshman. I know that it is still important and part of my gpa, but will that keep me from going to a school. Thanks for any suggestions.

It could, but until you know the rest of your grades, no one can predict. Get a 4.0 the rest of the way with a stellar test score and maybe it won’t make a difference.

I wouldn’t worry about it, just do better and see where you are at the end of your junior year.

One slight clarification - it could make a difference for a particular school, not every school.

As a general rule, the more elite the school, the more likely a substandard freshman year will make a difference, but even then, maybe not. It depends on what you do between freshman year and when you apply. YMMV.

It also depends on what state you live in. If you’re in Texas, a few Bs can sink your UT-Austin application while freshman grades are not even considered in CA. Presumably you don’t live in either state and may want to apply to some privates so my advice is just to work hard sophomore year and beyond since you can’t go back in time and change those Vs to As (remember that the vast majority of schools will still happily admit you)
