Does Freshmen Year Matter?

I was wondering how much your freshmen year matters at the most selective universities? I had a 3.5 GPA freshmen year, as the transition from middle school to high school was difficult. I did pick it up, getting a 4.0 GPA Sophomore year and a 4.5 Junior Year. Will my less-than-steller Freshmen year hurt my chances at some of the top Universities?

for most public colleges, they don’t care about freshmen year grades. but privates take in your freshmen year grades too, your 10th and 11th, along with the first semester of your 12th. so sorry :(

Even with a steep upward trend? Ah well, it never hurts to try.

Your upward trend is excellent, as long as your course load is continuously rigorous and you have the test scores/ECs to match, I see no reason why you shouldn’t be competitive for many of the top tier schools.
