Does going to a competitive prep school hurt your chances?

I go to a competitive prep school that many consider one of the best in the state. It's a great school, but it isn't nationally renowned like Andover, which makes me wonder if colleges will even consider my high school's difficulty. Our school only reports your weighted GPA, since, if they didn't, many students would atrocious GPAs. On a standard, unweighted scale though, I hold roughly a 3.97 with a 95 numerical average, but it seems like everyone who goes to a competitive college has a 4.0 and makes straight A+'s. Assuming my class rank is 3/~110, will colleges distinguish between me and other applicants who have better grades at easier schools?

Your transcript is considered within the context of your school. If it’s as well regarded as you say it is, top schools will be aware of it and how it grades.

Admissions departments do this for thousands of applicants every year - you do it once. They are far more aware things than you realize. Don’t worry, you’ll be treated fairly.
