I have a 3.875 GPA (unweighted) but I'm worried that won't be good enough to get me into my top schools (deerfield, lawrenceville and andover). I've been super super stressed lately because I feel like I NEED a 4.0 to get accepted. also, I am applying for the 2015-2016 school year, so I do have time to bring it up and am going to do my best, but I want to know if all this stress is really necessary. Is a 3.8 seen as mediocre to these schools?

I’m not an AO, but I can tell that GPA isn’t everything. The application is holistic, which means they evaluate you as a whole. Maybe your GPA isn’t the best it could be, but maybe you have amazing essays or an EC that the school needs. There’s nothing you can do now but wait. And don’t stress yourself out that much. Going to a boarding school or not going to one isn’t the deciding factor of everything in your life. You’re going to live if you don’t make it. I know that from experience, being WL’d last year.

…and your GPA is pretty darn good. They don’t want perfect applicants, they want people that will gain something from the school experience.

Yeah. I hope I didn’t come off as saying “your GPA is terrible”.

thanks, I appreciate your help!

@potential: I suspect what I cited from Andover’s website in the other thread you started contributed to this stress of yours over grades? Please keep in mind that while it’s pretty common that Andover’s admitted students have had most A’s and few B’s in their previous schools, Andover does not mandate straight A’s from all their applicants. Many kids have different circumstances and strengths that make them viable candidates. As a high school student, your grades are respectable. And your under-represented geographic area hook and life experience living in that area, among other things, will almost certainly help you. So, don’t stress over the grades you have already got (they are fine). Focus on what you are doing and do well in your classes and whatever EC’s you are involved in, and ace SSAT! BTW, if I were you, I’d quit CC for now, and come back in the summer when you start the application process, if you need any help then. Good luck!
