Does GWU have closed majors?

Many colleges my S and I visited have closed majors-- you need to be majoring in the subject area in order to take classes above the 100 level. This is generally due to the size of the school and the popularity of the major. Does GWU have closed majors, or can anyone take any class in any area provided the meet the prerequisites?

Depending on the major, it may or may not be closed. I know that in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) virtually all courses that are part of the School of Media and Public Affairs are limited to those who have already applied for a major within that school, although classes may be taken with departmental permission.

Other than that, I don't think there are many restrictions on courses other than prerequisites, but you should check out the the University Bulletin... GW Bulletin 2008-2009 ... which offers a lot of helpful information regarding courses and majors.

Hope this helps
