question about the different schools

hey I was wondering about the school of media and public affairs. Can you get in as a prospective freshmen or do you have to go to Columbia, then get in? How hard is of to go into the political communications major? Any info about the major and the school would be great!

If I've got it right, SMPA is a school within a college, namely the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

Along the same lines as the OP, has anyone ever been rejected from the SMPA program but still offered admission to GWU (or CAS)?

Columbian is the school of general studies, bit comprises an enormous amount of majors. Included in this major list, is SMPA. The problem is that you have to apply to SMPA after 45 credits of requirements have been taken, that means towards your end of your sophomore yr.
then you can take all the courses you want in journalism or political communication. If you apply at once to the SMPA, then you are allowed to take courses that for the general population youre not allowed otherwise.
I wouldn't know if you apply to SMPA and rejected, if you still get a spot in SMPA. I hope it helps

You can be rejected from SMPA, but accepted to Colombian College. SMPA is very competitive during freshman admissions.

Thanks _head8 and sshmohawk
I did see that some media courses have pre-requisite=SMPA...now it makes sense. If not admitted as freshman (very compentitive), then you have to wait until you have 45 credits to try again (hopefully by then you can demonstrate you're a top student ! )

correct ahoo2u, the only poroblem you must maintain a 3.0 average, which it may seem easy in High school, but in college it gets hard. the other issue, is that in the courses more pertinent to the SMPA requirements, you should do better than a 3.0 (b).
