We heard Harvard requries three SAT subject tests while other state Harvard only recommends three SAT subject tests. Can someone confirm? Thanks!

I believe it is required to have 3

The website should say the requirements.

So should the application. Or, call the admissions office.

Harvard requires 3 subject tests. 99.7% sure.

I am 100% sure they require 3 subject tests =]

“We heard that…”
Please do not go by hearsay. Go by what the college websites tell you. That’s why they’re there!!!

is it okay to submit an SAT II taken in January?

Check the Harvard website.

It’s not a good idea to ask random strangers on the Internet such an important question when you can get accurate info from Harvard’s website.

^Yikes! I could not imagine over 15,000 posts!

It also says that “If some students believe they are not well prepared to take a third SAT Subject Test because of a lack of opportunity at their school or because they have made other, thoughtful educational choices, all they need to do is submit a statement explaining their choices, to help us interpret their test performance. In such cases, it would be helpful for their secondary school counselor reports to corroborate the reasoning behind those choices.” So does that mean that a third subject test is optional?

It means exactly what it says. An applicant should have 3 subject tests but substantiate the reason why they don’t if they cannot.

Yes, you can take an SATII in January and still be considered for admission for the fall. Our daughter did this. So unless something has changed, am 100% sure that the required 3rd SAT can be taken that late in the game.

Hey, how do you think, is that reasonable to ask for excuze for low 3rd subj scores, reasoning that i didn’t have a material to prepare?
I’m sure, I take MATH I & II and get a very high score (although I tend to apply, indicating my intention to major in foreighn language), but bio… ooops, no books.

I mean, really no books: every library and study centre is closed because of the swine flu panic :/

The website says its two but why are you guys all saying three?

Which SAT Subject Tests should students take?
To satisfy our application requirements, applicants must take two SAT Subject Tests.

Here’s the link:
[Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Frequently Asked Questions](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/faq.html#11)

Which SAT Subject Tests should students take?
To satisfy our application requirements, applicants must take two SAT Subject Tests. Students should not submit two Subject Tests in mathematics to meet this requirement. Candidates whose first language is not English should ordinarily not use a Subject Test in their first language to meet the two Subject Tests requirement. . Applicants may wish to convey the breadth of their academic interests by taking tests in different subjects. All students are encouraged to submit additional Subject Tests (which may include one in a student’s first language), Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test results, or any other evidence of the breadth and depth of their academic accomplishments.

Next application cycle they’re changing to 2 subjects. Period. No argument.

ONLY 2 STARTING NEXT YEAR :D

I had a similar question in an earlier thread, and silverturtle confirmed what Drelnis says; only 2 subject tests required for Harvard from here on out.
