I was wondering whether having a job matter to colleges?

Is it really critical? or does it not matter as much?

does it count as an extracurricular activity?

also I was wondering how to include my employment record into my application. Will I have to have my employer send in something that says I worked there?

Also compare it to volunteer hours, which one is more important to colleges?

I am going into my senior year of high school and have 300 volunteer hours, and way more work hours

It’s an extracurricular. No more, no less. You don’t need any employment verification, nor any other EC verification. The hours (volunteer or work) really don’t count for anything other than you’ve gotten a chance to earn some money and show some dedication.

Of course - if you have a job then colleges will realize that you may not have as much time for activities as other applicants. If you have a job to support your family, than that can really work in your favor because it shows hard-work, dedication, and loyalty.
