Does it help to be a pacific islander?

Hi everyone,

I’m Hispanic, a pacific islander, and white. I’m wondering if there’s an advantage to being a pacific islander on my college application. I understand that being multiracial and having a Hispanic last name helps, but since there are so few pacific islanders at major universities, I don’t know the impact of being an islander (Guam). Do colleges just mix it in with asians?
Note that I was born in the US.

Thanks

Pacific Islander status will help. It’s its own category. It’s not mixed with Asian.

I have the feeling that by “Pacific Islander” they mean a person who is racially Samoan from Samoa, for example, or in the case of Guam, Chamorro.

Are you from, say, a US military family, as opposed to Chamorro? In that case I would assume that living in Guam could be a geographical plus–like hailing from North Dakota  – but you would not be considered “ethnically” Pacific Islander.

Consolation I am Chamorro.
