I really don’t know what I want to do and can’t decide what major to put. I am applying to some ivies and top liberal arts and don’t want to look like i don’t know what i’m doing though.
I don’t think you’d be the first student ever to do that. The colleges and universities might have seen indecision before.
Just guessing.
At schools divided into divisions based on majors (like Columbia, Cornell, and Penn among the Ivy League schools), the division you apply for may affect frosh admission selectivity. It may also require a GPA higher than needed to stay in good academic standing to change to a different division later.
Its not a problem if you dont have a major. For many schools, they may not even ask or care.
You do, however, need to know what college you are interested in. If you want to be an engineer, for example, you need to apply to that college. For some schools acceptances into collges can vary widely. At U of MN acceptance into engineering or business is much tougher than liberal arts.
Nobody cares. It is perfectly OK not to know your college major at age 17-18. Unless you are applying to a specialty school (ex. business, nursing, engineering) admission officers don’t pay much attention to your intended major since half of the students coming in with a major end up switching while at college.
No. I applied undecided and got into a top liberal arts school. They don’t care that much. Don’t fake your major to try to get into a school, colleges know many people change their major.
In my experience no it doesn’t matter. They’ll usually just put you in the general arts and sciences college.
