Does it look bad to have an Applied Computing major?

Hi everyone,

I will be graduating with a BA in Applied Computing and minor in Business from a four year university next Summer. I intended to major in accounting but gave it up because my true passion lies in the fields of art and design. At my school there is a department/program specializing in emergent technologies and art, which is my concentration studies, thus I'm taking a lot of art/design courses besides the programming and computer science curriculum. My ideal career path is to become a UI designer, or anything that involves programming,IT and design art.

What troubles me is that someone told me that "applied" majors does not sound good and it would be hard to find good jobs, because its "associate degree" level.

I just want to hear your thoughts on it, and please feel free to give me advices on the possible career paths, thank you so much!

Suggestion would be to head to grad school for an MS in HCI, UX, or related. The field is way too broad AND deep to be covered well with a 4 year degree. Depending on where you live there are quite a few good state programs (grad) with focus in those areas.

Prospective employers will want portfolio and solid knowledge of the popular technologies in case you decide to go the job route. Internships of course would help.
