So me and my mother got into a fight the other night. She was yelling at me telling me that I had to finish my applications. I was like sure whatever. But then she said that people who hand in their applications sooner than others (both still before the deadline) have a better chance of admission. I told her that was not true. But then she insisted that I was immature and that she lived in the "Real World" and that just cuz they say they dont care when you send in the application (as long as its before the deadline), doesnt mean its true. So is my mother right? assuming applications had the same quality.

Unless the school has rolling admissions, when you send your application makes no difference.

it depends on the school. Some colleges like applicants who apply early, while most colleges don't really care.

Most colleges just want you to apply early so that they get time to organize the paperwork.

It also lets you fix any difficulties that may occur with your application - server down or too busy for you to submit; Post Office getting swamped with Christmas mail; recommendations missing; transcripts lost; etc. When you wait until the last minute, you have no "cushion" - if the server's busy, you can't just say, Oh, OK, I'll try again tomorrow.

Remember Murphy's Law and plan accordingly.
