does it matter?

Hello everyone,
i am an international student, i go to one of the boarding school in in the states ..I have a question about the acceptance in the private univerities here in the states..
If anyone has an idea... does it really matter what boarding school do u come from... i mean does the name of ur school has a weight in ur application... or it is all about ur achievenments , ur extra curricular, ur grades, ur standarized tests scores ... etc..
Any help will be greatly appreciated ..
Thanx in advance

The school matters a lot. At the top 5 boarding schools, almost 40% get into top 10 colleges. The drop off to lower ranked preps is huge. Also, almost everyone accepted at a top boarding school would get into ivies if they stayed at their local public or went to a less selective prep.

but u dont c that in the university's criterea in accepting students ?

it's hidden under "rigor of course load" if you go to a good school, they know that you've been working, even if your classes aren't called "advanced accelerated honors advanced placement international bacculaurate math 32983425" It also helps in the fact that if you're getting As at a school like that, they know that they are probably better than the As some other kid gets at PS 123, and certainly better than PS 123's Bs.

and does it have a HUGE effect?
