Does it seem I will get into Northwestern?

I am a junior in high school in Long Island, NY.

I am concerned whether I would be wasting my early decision option to college if I apply to Northwestern. I plan on studying Economics/Business. I also plan on applying to Columbia, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, UPenn, Emory, University of Chicago, and NYU Stern.

I would say I am in the top 10 of a class of 300 in a competitive high school.
I had a 730 on CR. 700 on M and 720 on Writing.
I also got a 800 on my SAT II for World History, and believe I will get a 800 on my SAT II in U.S History, a 750 on Chem and a 730 on Math I.

I have 99.4 GPA weighted average and over a 97 average without the weight.

These are list of my accomplishments:

You would not be wasting your ED shot at NU.
You are a strong applicant. Your SATs are solid, but less than superb. That being the case, i actually think that you might be in that group of applicants who would have a better shot ED than RD.
NU is an unbelievable school. If you like it better tha. The others on your list, you should take your shot ED.

You will not be wasting your ED shot IF:

If Northwestern is your first choice school,

and after having done your research (including using financial aid calculators) you conclude you will likely be able to afford it.

Your statistics are competitive, but not unique. People with similar stats to yours are admitted to NU – but not everyone. I agree with WCASParent that you are the kind of candidate who could be helped by ED.

Bump. Bump. Bump.

Time to start polishing a college essay, I suppose. Oh, and the ‘Why Northwestern?’ bit is supposed to be very, very important. They’re making a huge deal out of how they’re looking for people who really want to be at NU and all that, so it’s something to keep in mind. Since they’re so interested in ‘demonstrated interest,’ then that makes campus visits, ‘Why X’ questions, and, yes, applying ED much more important. 40% of this year’s acceptances were from Early Decisioners. Just saying.

Many thanks to all that replied.

Surest way to get into NU is to apply ED. It also counts as showing serious interest which is something NU will put a premium on.

Since ED is binding, you also have to be certain that is the school you want.

I’m wondering why you would choose Northwestern when they don’t really have an undergraduate business school. My son really likes the school but he wants to major in business. I know that you can put together business courses but I’m wondering if it would be better to actually graduate with a BBA.

Also, is the quarter system a problem for anyone? You would be far from home (like my son) and therefore not have a lot of time to see family and friends.

My son likes Northwestern because they’re in a great city and they’re a top school that’s also big 10.

Most of the top colleges don’t have undergraduate business programs, so that’s a bit of a moot point. I understand that most of the admits major in other things, rather than business.

For what it’s worth, my father the exec told me that he takes business degrees, especially undergrad ones, with a grain of salt unless they’re from a top-tier business school. Say, top 6 or 7.
