What's the best bet for me?

I visited Northwestern in the spring and I loved it. It is clearly one of my top choices, the only thing is I don't know where I should use my ED. I know I will definitely either be applying to Northwestern CAS ED or Cornell AEM ED, the deciding factor will basically be what school do I have a better shot at getting in?

UW GPA: 3.75ish
W GPA: 4.02
(huge upward trend, have a 4.32 W junior year)

Took 2 APs junior year and taking 4 more senior year-the rest all honors. (I go to a competitive private school and this is just about the most they allow. The smartest kid only takes like 8 in total.)

ACT: best single score is 32. If they superscore I have a 34 though. I might send both because in one i have 34s in two, and the other one i have 34 in the other two.

SATs: not taking
SAT IIs: took, but not sending because I have some low scores from sophomore year.

ECs: I'm not going to list them but I have quite a view significant ones and am confident that my ECs will definitely help me in admissions. They show that I am really well rounded, am dedicated, and have leadership. Also, I have competed in several economics competitions, one at Harvard and one at the Fed in Boston. I am also doing an economics for leaders program at Cornell in about a week.

Recs: should be really good

Essay: should be good as well.

Thanks for all the input

You might want to rethink the way you're going about this...you don't have to "use your ED" anywhere - you make it seem like a one-time-use ticket to admission somewhere, and while the odds are slightly more in your favor for ED, it should be reserved for a situation in which you are positive you want to attend that college. It doesn't sound like that is the case for you.

Answering your question, as a kid from Boston you have a better chance at NU than at Cornell. But I would repeat misa's sentiments.

Well if it's actually the case that Cornell and NU are both equally the OP's first choice, and s/he is positive that s/he would be happy at either place, it would make sense to have "where do I have the better chance" be the deciding factor. (But only if you are SURE and it's truly equal!)

I second what arbiter213 said. NU is trying to get more kids from the NE.

dfleish hit the nail on the head. I know I would be equally happy at either school and they would both give me similar oppourtunities. And I definitely want to apply early, not only for that slight boost but I think I'd kill myself not knowing If I got into my first choice till the endish of senior year.

If you'd taken the SAT you'd know that "not only...." always has to be followed by "but also...."

Grammar powers!

^^^ Of the things I learned for the SAT, that's the only one that stuck

i don't know about cornell's SATII policy but i know that they are not a requirement at northwestern...so check cornell's website and see if they require SATIIs. if they do then i guess you should go with northwestern. i like northwestern's campus better. chicago's just a few miles away.

Cornell has different requirements based on what major youre planning to go into but generally speaking, its usually 2 SAT 2s in different subjects.

The schools I would be applying at at Cornell do not require SAT IIs, the Agricultural School and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, so that is not an issue.
