Does my 2280 SAT score make up for my 3.4 GPA?

Like the title says. I'm pretty smart and I have good EC's etc., I was just lazy in school till this year really and I was wondering if my 2280 SAT (superscore) makes up for my low 3.4 (UW) GPA. I want to apply to competitive schools, i.e top 50

thanks :)

Not at the higher ones like top 25. You have a shot at the others tho

I agree you going to have to go down to the top 25 to 50. You are free to apply to any but you chances are slim.

What is your class rank and are you taking the most difficult courses possible (ie Calc BC junior year, Physics C etc)? If so, you may have a shot at some in the Top 25, especially if you visit and apply to one ED. But if your rank is below the Top 10%, then the Top 25 is very unlikely. As another poster has stated (forget who but I liked it), the SAT shows the student wearing their Sunday best clothes, while GPA is a mark of every day wear. Colleges want to see both.

In my view, some very good schools that tend to emphasize SAT scores as much as grades (although this is not to say that grades are not also important) – Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, Washington University, and Northwestern

Yeah, that sort of discrepancy worked out well for me, I wouldn’t worry.

thanks for the advice guys  i was planning on applying to a couple top 25 for my reach schools
my school actually doesn’t do rank so thats good cause it wouldnt be that high, and im taking the most rigorous courseload :)

If you are outside the top 10% then you basically have zero chance at almost all the top 25 schools.

Even though your school does not officially rank the school profile sent to colleges allows the admission offices to at least infer where you are in the class.

oh i didn’t know that :s thanks
