Does "non-business" Work Exp. Look Bad for MBA?

I'm currently working as a medical billing specialist, but have been researching various grad programs this past year, incl. MBA's.

I know that business schools value and some seem to almost require that you have several years of work experience.

Do you guys happen to know if a non-business WE background would hurt in that regard? I would maybe classify what I do as more administrative.

Also, I'm non-trad. in that I"m a bit older having had to work throughout undergrad to help my family and pay my own bills. So thing have taken me longer.

They’d really appreciate work experience that has leadership, which is why business schools swoon over military veterans. So in that regards your work experience may not be the most preferred. Through your resume and essays, you can demonstrate critical thinking skills, making decisions under time constraints, and responsibilities of either money or people.

Your work experience will be compared to others applying for that same program. What’s mediocre for Harvard Business School is good for a less selective institution.

I agree - leadership is very important.
