Does not applying ED to Columbia hurt my chances?

<p>Hi. I'm currently a junior and the school I would love to go to is Columbia. However, I have average stats (2200 on the SAT, 4.2 GPA, etc.) that wouldn't really distinguish me from others. </p>

<p>I don't know whether I should apply early decision to Columbia next year, which would, if I'm not mistaken, increase my chances of an acceptance. However, I'm worried about the financial aid. I need financial aid, but I'm also worried that if I don't apply ED, there's no way I would get accepted into Columbia. Any advice? Thank you.</p>

<p>If you cannot afford Columbia, you do not have to attend, even with early decision. Apply if that is your first choice.</p>

<p>Do what you can with the stats in the next year, but don’t stress over them. I agree with CrystalJ, if your first choice is Columbia, definitely apply ED.</p>
