does not qualifyingfor the IMO and having only the national one hurt my application?

hu guys
I'm a tunisian student
i've been since my freshman year math-olympic club president and a participant in the math games not to mention the kangoroo competition
as for the IMo i missed my chance this year , i was so close: in fact i was among the top ten in the country but they take only 5 seniors and one juniors yet i was clased second among juniors so i couldn't go this year(i'm so angry that i messed the last test i would doing well)
but next year i could be going , however it is going to be so late that i can't put it in application
as for the math games i was classed second nation-wide
as for kangoroo i am classed fisrt but it is only ergionnaly not internationally

will this harm my application and decrease my chancs especially that MIT always takes international students who participate in the IMO???

saying that MIT always takes internationals who participate in IMO is inaccurate. in my country, they have accepted math people who did not quite make the team and they have rejected students who have done very well at IMO.

the standards for international students are extremely high, and in your country, there might be at most 1 or 2 acceptances per year. i don’t know much about your situation, but i think that not having IMO will be a disadvantage.

it is definitely disappointing to not make it in your junior year, but dont give up, you still have a last shot. best wishes!

In my country the IMO team doesn’t go to MIT, because “la normale di pisa” is better. XD
