This is obviously for test optional schools. My daughter wants to apply without submitting her ACT, and that may be a good strategy for admission. But does every school have a different take on whether testing is required for financial aid? If so, it’s frankly pretty scummy for schools not to make that very clear up front… Because it isn’t very clear.
When I say financial aid, I am talking about both scholarships as well as grants and loans. Thanks.
Best bet….call the colleges and ask. Merit scholarships are handled usually by admissions. They should be able to tell you if standardized test scores are required.
For need based aid, ask at each school…but this is based on your financials, not your stats.
Yes. Sorry I was talking merit aid. It shouldn’t impact need aid Of course a need aware school could use that in their decision…if the student had too much need…and not admit at all.
These are not elite schools. One, maybe two are stretches. But the reality is her ACT is not going to help her for admissions. I’m not positive whether it’ll hurt or not. She is going to qualify for a lot of need-based aid, but we’re not in a position where she can leave potential funds on the table. I guess I’m going to have to let my fingers do the walking and call. And if you got that reference you’re as old as I am! Thanks. I do wish colleges and universities were more upfront about this.
University of Minnesota system schools, Minnesota state system schools, Christopher Newport because she visited while near family and adored it, University of St Thomas Minnesota, College of Saint Scholastica Minnesota, University of North Florida (asl interpretation major)
