I mean, I understand that they really really want you to use it but if I prefer filling the application out by hand and mailing it in, will they mind?

If you have neat writing, and no crazy white-out fluid, i think it's ok.

But then again, what justifies neat writing?

I don't think it'll hurt your chances, they just prefer online because they have to scan in all paper apps.

Really? I thought the whole point of online is so they can print out and it's easier to read...not to scan every paper application that comes is...wow that would be a lot of work.

Columbia's the only school, I think, that scans everything. That's why they ask you to send everything in 9x12 envelopes so you don't fold anything.

ah...thx for clearing things up franklin

Yeah, the admissions rep who visited my area told us that they scan everything and read them on computers. That's why they prefer online.

The reason I want to do it on paper is because it's just more flexible this way. For example, my "why columbia" thing is much too long to fit on the online app but with the paper one, I'm gonna bend the rules a little and continue it on the SEAS question.

I hope they don't mind.

Haha I meant thx to zantedeschia...sorry.

Every admissions rep I've talked to said they really really prefer it online. It's just extra work for them if you mail it in. It probably shouldn't affect the outcome, but I could see them thinking that you're resist to change if you won't do it online. Just be sure that everything is really neat.
