Does packing stress you out?

Nope, I actually enjoy planning outfits and packing. I never wait until the last minute and typically pack up a few days in advance.

Latest trip was last month. I was in snow one day and 90 degrees another. And I am glad I overpacked. Easy to do on a road trip.

Try packing for six weeks in Spain in a backpack! This was for the Camino de Santiago. But we were also going to Barcelona. By the time I got to Barcelona, I couldn’t wait to shop for new clothes!

I live out of my suitcase except in very rare instances. If I put anything in drawers it’s all in ONE drawer and I work from there.

No. I’ve had a system for packing based on a “Travel List” word doc I created decades ago that I review and tweak (or not) prior to each trip. It’s about 25 lines long where “Clothes/Shoes” is just one line as what I actually pack to wear is not what the list is about or my major concern. The list also includes “Things to Do” before leaving like “Forward Mail,”“Empty Garbage,” etc.

Whether it’s overnight or two months in Dublin, I travel with one carry-on roller bag and one small underseat case that fits atop the roller bag. Even my purse goes in the roller bag. I refuse to check luggage. Like @thumper1, I know that there is nothing I can’t buy at my destination if I need it.

I stress about having to travel, not anything to do with packing.

I keep a toiletry bag for traveling only…duplicates of what I use at home or similar so I don’t have to pack that and I have found that helpful over the years. I don’t stress over packing but usually start early and don’t wait until last minute. H usually packs the night before. I leave things in suitcase. He unpacks at hotel.

I did for my first trip abroad, but not anymore. Like others have mentioned, for most trips, you can usually buy anything you forgot.

Not for packing- unpacking. Not quite accurate to say that it’s stressful- I just hate doing it. With packing you are going somewhere! unpacking is just work- doing the laundry, putting away any “stuff” that you got out for the trip (which for me usually involves the attic/basement/garage depending on the type of adventure we have just been on).

My family used to laugh at me because the last thing I would do before we would leave for any length of trip was sweep and swiffer the kitchen floor - like while the family was waiting in the car. It helped my state of mind so much to come home to a clean kitchen! (the room we enter from outside)

I actually hate unpacking far more than almost anything else related to travel! It’s a chore!

It sounds reasonable. I always change the linen on the bed - I want to come home to clean sheets. Hmmm, now I may add floors…

Umm, my luggage from my Texas trip in mid-April May still be sitting unopened in my bedroom…

I do have to unpack when I get home or I feel stressed with suitcases laying around the house. Part of this is because our home is small and I don’t like it cluttered.

Thank Goodness, my husband always unpacks right away for both of us. I only keep the important stuff, like passports, Oyster cards, UK money.
If it was up to me, I would take weeks after my travel.

Packing definitely stresses me out, especially when you don’t know how the weather is going to be/you require being prepped for serious weather swings.

I’m not quite(!) that bad, but yeah. I used to clean right until the end. I’ve relaxed a bit in the last few years. I like having everything neat and tidy when we leave, but for the most part, our house doesn’t get really dirty now with just two working people. It’s just the cat hair vacuuming/chom choming. And since they are there while we’re gone, I don’t get a break from that when I come back!

I have to unpack everything as soon as I walk in the door. The laundry gets dumped from the suitcases immediately into the wash. What doesn’t fit sits on the floor. But if I don’t do it ASAP, it’ll never get done.

Depends on where I am going, for how long I am going, and why I am going. I have more stress for international travel than domestic (though I have not done that in years). I have a bit more stress if I am going on a longer trip than a shorter one. And, I have more stress if I am attending a more formal, “event,” of some sort that requires I not forget something related to that event - shoes, handbag, jewelry, etc. More stress if I need to look, “nice.”

But, generally, I think not much stress. Main things one needs are prescriptions, passports (if required) or ID, and a payment method. Oh, and phone. Because, unless as someone else said upthread, if you aren’t going to the far ends of the earth, you can generally buy anything you might need.

I also want everything pretty clean when I leave. Definitely everything picked up.

I always unpack everything and sort laundry as soon as I get home. Put the suitcase away immediately. Re-entry is my least favorite part of traveling.

Best packing advice always came from my daddy: “Take half the clothes and twice the money.”

I’m another one who unpacks right away. If I can’t be on vacation I want to be settled back into everyday life. Definitely unpack the suitcase probably an hour or so after arriving home.

I also clean before leaving and change linens. Makes coming home a wee bit easier psychologically.

If I’m going to one location and staying put, I’ll unpack right away, but most of our trips usually involve moving hotels so I leave everything in my packing cubes.

I used to use packing cubes but since I learned to fold Konmarie style I quit. Now I can see everything at once and pick out exactly what I want. Much easier.
