In any case, it sounds like a good policy to retake the class to offset that D with another grade, preferably an A, as well as 111, before you take 113.
@MYOS1634 I looked at that page and at the bottom it says only the course with [1] in bold next to them (for example Matse 201)have to have a C or higher, Unless I read wrong.
do you know if all prescribed courses are supposed to be C or higher?
I thought all prescribed courses had to be C or higher but if it says only classes with the[1] need it, then perhaps you can get away with the D in chemistry. It doesn’t sound very wise though, even if they allow it, so I would check with your adviser first.
@MYOS1634 I`ll still check, the only reason Im against retaking it is because it will mess up my current plans for the next few semesters. If this class was a class I had difficulty in then I would retake it, but the concepts I could easily brush up on with a workbook I bought.
and for the whole [1] thing, I thought it was weird that chem 110 wasnt required to have a C or better, even on the academic plan for MATSE its not in bold.
Last thing, a few weeks ago for scheduling I scheduled for chem 112, and if I do need a D or higher in chem110 for the class, will it automatically dis enroll me and notify me? I dont know if thats a thing or not.
I feel compelled to comment. I see a phenotype I have many times. Ajpat123, listen to MYOS1634. Re-take 110 and be certain you have gained the knowledge AND the intellectual development that will help you do better in upper level courses. You are on the verge of fitting the profile of a perpetually struggling student. As I read your responses and situation, I get the impression you are fishing for the answer you want, not the way it is. I think you need to meet with an advisor who can look at your total situation- CHEM, MATH etc. If you are not confident with your advisor, you can try the ECoS walk in advising services. Just tell them you are considering majoring in an ECoS major. The classes you are having difficulties in are ECoS classes.
This is hard for me to say and please understand I do so not to hurt you. Think carefully if you should reconsider your plans to major in ENG. Don’t let this continue much longer. There is still time to make changes. With a summer session you could still graduate in 4 years if you decide to switch/retake a few classes.
Someone asked above “why retake if the bad grade still drags down your GPA”? People will look at your transcript at some point, especially for grad school and may be for some jobs. I have seen students in a similar situation. Following up a poor performance with a strong performance coneys a positive message about the determination of that student.
