Does school matter?

Okay so i have been reading though some of the topics having to deal with this question and i just really havn't found an exact answer.

What i want to know is if what school you went to really matters when you are being considered for an interview/admission.

I am a Highschool student going to be a senior this year and am going to start applying to schools. I have already determined what schools i will be applying to. UW Milwuakee, UW lacrosse, And UW Madison. I probably will not mke it into UW Madison because i have not been too solid in highschool, increasing grade trend but my freshman and sophmore years were horribly bad.

What i want to know is that if i went to UW Milwuakee or UW Lacrosse, did well with like around a 3.8-40 GPA, good Mcat scores and some voulnteering, could i make it into a good medical school? What i would plan on doing is if possible transfer to the UW of Madison after one or two years at one of the two other said colleges.

With grades like that would a chance at hopkins or a place that reputable be at all possible?

Thanks for any responses.

School for the most part does not matter - especially if you get good grades, good scores and stellar involvement.

Perhaps at the super top schools like WashU or Hopkins, going to a more prestigious school makes a difference but the question is really, how much ground do you make up for by going to a place like Harvard? Is a 3.7 at Harvard better than a 3.8 at a smaller UW school? maybe a little, but not enough to really matter unless your applications were identicle in every way but GPA.

As far as the reputation of medical schools realize that every school in the country is outstanding. With only 125 schools, the difference between the best and the worst is miniscule...and considering that less than 50% of the people who apply to med school get accepted in a given year, that shouldn't be surprising.

We just got the thread on this subject stickied. It's the third thread on this forum.
