Does Stanford's Performing Arts Major Require an Audition?

Title says it all. I haven’t seen anything on an audition but just double checking.

Stanford allows arts supplements. Contact the department about how they want the supplement submitted. The Theatre department strongly encouraged a live arts supplement while the music department said they absolutely wanted the supplement sent in thru Slideroom. The Theatre department said that an arts supplement will never hurt you. The application with the arts supplement is due much earlier than a regular application so pay attention to the dates.

You’ll want to submit an arts portfolio supplement, but there is no direct admission to performing arts; you’ll be considered for admission along with likely bio and French and computer majors. So it’s important that your essays etc make it clear you have some intellectual contribution to make, as well as performance.

One really important thing to know about the supplement is it is due long before the entire application is due, like a couple of weeks at least. And for performers video is required. So it requires a lot of pre-planning.

Having said that, I am left with the impression Stanford is delighted to have academically qualified performers apply. My kid is REA 2022 a soprano, possibly a history major.

Thanks for the info. However for transfer applications the arts portfolio is due at the same time as the application.
