Does the 18.03 ASE have partial credit?

Taking the 18.03 ASE during orientation (got sick during finals), and I'm wondering, is the 18.03 ASE graded with partial credit?

Thanks, an answer would put my mind at ease.

What do you mean by partial credit? You either take the class or you don’t.

what I mean is if I write down work for a problem (say it’s worth 20 points) and don’t solve it/solve it incorrectly, will I get some points out of 20 or will I get no points out of 20?

Oh, that was silly of me.

I believe they award partial credit for solutions that have the correct thinking but simple errors (ie, you multiplied something wrong) but not for lack of understanding.

My guess is yes, because they do for the final exam in 18.03. It might be less than you might expect/want, though, and, as Piper said, I doubt you will get partial credit for lapses in understanding.

Do lots and lots of practice problems. Run through practice exams, at least one a day. Get yourself to a place where you aren’t nervous. 18.03 problems are extremely predictable–with enough practice you should be able to do extremely well very, very easily and consistently. And if that isn’t the case then it wouldn’t be bad to take the class.

Best of luck!
