Does the dorm allow electric kettle?

I don’t know why this is so important to me but this question has been bothering me for days. I’m accepted into Barnard ED and now all I can think about the college life is whether or not the dorm allows electric kettle…

and another thing is…sometimes i have random questions about college life at Barnard popping out of my head and I don’t want to CALL the college just for those stuff but I can’t wait till the orientation to have these questions answered…Is there some kind of forum for Barnard students where these trivial questions can be answered??

Thanks…

Yes, you can have an electric water heater…at least my d did her freshman year. Thing is they don’t want an “exposed coil” (like with a toaster), but if you get something that heats the water but does not have a continuously heated surface, you are good. For example, I think a “drip” coffee maker that goes into a thermal carafe is okay, but not one with a hot plate that keeps the coffee hot…At least that is how we interpreted it.

As for other questions, ask them here or check out Facebook. I am sure there are students there who will want to talk with you! Congrats on your ED accomplishment. I know there is lots you want to know, my advice to you would be to focus on enjoying the last bit of your HS experience and THEN focus on Barnard…they will give you all the info you need, I promise! It will start coming in full force in June…and there are accepted student visitation days in April.

Thank you so much for answering my questions :))

Yes people have told me over and over again to enjoy the little carefree time I still have as a senior 0o0 I really want to do something really memorable with my friends before high school ends and that’s why I’m planning to go on some kind of really big trip…like cross country travel on rail or to the grand canyon (might be a little bit too late to plan for the latter).

Where should I check out on facebook?

If you have a facebook account, just do a search using the word Barnard and I am sure you will find groups to join…

If you have burning (or even non-burning) questions about college life…

I just graduated from Barnard this May. I actually have no idea why I’m on this site right now, except that I remembered it from my application days and thought I’d check it out again. Somehow I got swept in. But, if I were to have a purpose, it would be to answer those types of questions. Give me purpose! You can write your questions here or pm me. Of course, I’m just one voice, but I’ll try my best to be helpful :)

Also, I have no idea whether people still use it or not (LOL), but Livejournal was the place to find such info about schools when I was applying. I’m sure it or something like it would be useful. Obviously, Facebook is also an obvious source of information, although I have found other sites (such as lj, back in the day) to have more obsessed users who devote time and energy to answering questions.

Barnard College Class of 2014 Facebook group has some current first-years answering questions, as well as some quirky future classmates. Check it out: [Barnard College Class of 2014 | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

Thank you both so much!! :)
