Hi I am a junior currently living in Texas hoping to get into UT or A&M. I was wondering how much of an impact my major has on my acceptance to those schools. For example if I would major in engineering, would my chances decrease versus majoring in biochemistry where my chances of admission would be better.

Yes, for UT Austin at least. Some have reported getting automatic admission, but not getting into the desired division. Others not qualified for automatic admission have reported being rejected after applying for a popular division. Engineering and business are the popular divisions that are thought to have higher admission standards.

However, this also likely means that changing into them later requires another admission process.
