Does the University of Michigan admit by intended major?

I’m an OOS student. My intended major is computer science through the college of engineering. However, being OOS and having engineering majors be usually the most competitive, I am not sure if I will get in with my current stats.

My back up plan is to apply to LSA’s CS program, which actually might end up what I’ll be doing since I want to do a math double major (and that’s through LSA as well, so the credits are allowed to overlap more than if they were in separate colleges.)

I was wondering if UMich looked at intended major through what college.

Can somebody move this to the University of Michigan thread? I accidentally put it in the musical theater program.

You should apply directly to LSA CS since you may want to double major with math.
There’s always a process of admission by college (but getting into LSA is no walk in the park :wink: )
@alexandre?

https://cs.lsa.umich.edu/prospective-students/advising.html says that LSA students need to earn a 2.5 GPA in the four prerequisite courses to declare the LSA CS major.

https://advising.engin.umich.edu/declaring-or-changing-major/ says that engineering students can freely choose their majors (2.0 GPA required).

Choice of LSA or engineering presumably can matter for admission selectivity.

Freshmen admissions is done by school/college.
