Hey! I was recently admitted to Umich LSA. I put my preferred major as Computer Science on the application, however in my acceptance it only says LSA and not CS. WHat does this mean? Does it mean that I have to declare CS after freshman year or am I directly admitted into LSA CS?
ANY INPUTS ARE MOST APPRECIATED.
Intended major field is just for a survery purpose. You are not admitted into a specific major in LSA (or CoE). You declare major after freshmen year.
You don’t apply to a major right out of high school. You are admitted to University of Michigan’s college of Literature, Science, and the Arts. That’s it. You have until the end of sophomore year to declare your major. But if you already know that you want to major in computer science you should start taking the requirements freshman year.
CS has two paths: LSA & engineering, and differs primarily on the core requirements of each school. The programs are essentially identical (you even pay engineering upperclass tuition, not LSA).You should decide which works better for you, it is fairly easy to transfer between LSA/Engineering
For LSA you aren’t really accepted under a specific major. You just have to take the prereqs for your major of choice and then you can declare your major once you complete those.
At Michigan, LSA students can elect to major in any discipline offered, be it Anthropology or Chemistry or Computer Science or Economics etc…As long as you complete the prerequisites for the major, you may declare any major you wish that is offered by LSA, CS included, by the end of Sophomore year.
