Does this even matter?

Does it make a difference if one of your teacher recommendation letters was written by somebody who's currently a postgrad student at the university you're applying to? Is there a chance that the adcoms will contact that person and talk to them about you?

i’m not sure but i really don’t think it matters

I highly doubt it, especially if it is a large university.

Adcoms like to get recs from a balance of people (like math and history teachers or English and science) who know you well and probably already taught you. It’s not so much about what that person does now, but how that person knows you. You don’t want, for instance, a family member writing your rec.

What would matter is whether the person taught you a course that you took as a junior or senior (typically the years when colleges require that the teachers have taught you)

Ok, thanks for the responses! I was a bit worried the adcoms might bother my ex-teacher with questions about me (that would be just too much!), but you’re right that it sounds unlikely. They’ll hardly have the time to go through my application in such depth.

Northstarmom, I know. That person taught me in senior year, so everything is as it should be.
