Does this honestly make sense.. RANT

I took intro to business online. Classes ended on the 17th. On the 17th, I still had a handful of assignments to turn in and had EVERY intention on doing so. Also, I hadn't yet turned in my semester paper. As I was working on it, (at about 2-3 pm) I get a notification that my teacher gave me a 0 for it. So I failed the course, like what the h***. The day wasn't even over..

Is it just me or does it not make sense that we didnt have until 11:59 on the 17th to finish our work. Grades weren't due until like the 20th so there was no reason for her to start giving out 0's mid way through the day -_- Now i'll have to spend money on the course again next semester, because she didn't want to wait until the day was actually over. And whats worse is that she didnt even answer me back when I asked her about it..

Why would you wait until the very last minute on the very last day?

Honestly, you were failed because you failed yourself. Get your act together.

Well being as though she said we have until the 17th to hand everything in, and due to the number of essays and research papers that were due this month from other classes, due to me being sick, and due to me having work, I’d say I had no choice but to put it off.

But that isn’t the point, but I do appreciate you replying just to not answer my initial questions. Thanks.

“I still had a handful of assignments to turn in … Also, I hadn’t yet turned in my semester paper.”

This is why. She probably thought that you weren’t going to turn anything more in. Unless you had been in contact with her about your work conflicts and being sick, there would be no reason why she would assume that you indeed “had EVERY intention on” completing the missing classwork.

Send her an email. Attach the files containing all of your classwork. Ask her if there is any chance that she could re-consider that 0. If she can’t or won’t (she may now be locked out of the grading system), take this as one expensive and sad life lesson. Next time, let your teacher know the minute you get sick enough to be unable to complete an assignment on time, and think long and hard about how many courses you should enroll in each term given your work schedule.

“11:59 on the 16th” is not an unreasonable interpretation of “until the 17th.”

This is exactly how I would have thought of it. Especially considering the 17th was a Monday - an odd day for everything to have to be turned in, when it would make more sense that the professor would need everything by Sunday so that s/he can enter grades first thing on Monday.

I agree that it would be unreasonable if you had been in good communication with the professor and s/he was aware that you had a bit going on during the time these assignments were due (i.e. illness, work, and other school commitments) and s/he still will not consider some or all of the assignments.

Thank you for the replies guys. She still hasn’t emailed me back, but I’m not too worried about it. Still managed to get a 3.125 with a D+ in that course. The only thing I’m still upset about is that it’s unbelievable how easy it is to get an A, but I guess it was my fault. Now I’m debating on whether or not to take the class over.

It’s unbelievable easy to get the A, but you didn’t. You won’t let this happen again, though, I’m sure.
