hello from the columbia forum. congrats to those of you who've gotten accepted! my condolences to those of you who got rejected, i know how you feel. similarly to those deferred, i imagine it's very bittersweet :(

anyway, ironically enough yesterday when i got rejected i got a letter from cornell asking me to apply. is this something that they just send random people to get their pool to be bigger or should i take it as they think i may have a chance somehow? i've also gotten a few emails.

admittedly after such a blatant rejection from columbia, i feel hesitant about applying anywhere else. but, as several have told me already, life moves on.

first off, im sorry about your rejection. but as everyone has told you, life moves on. you shouldnt give up, or let a college decision define who you are. you shouldnt put all of your eggs in one basket, and there are obviously other schools that want you to apply. so do that! pick yourself up, realize that you are qualified to attend whatever top school you want to, and go for it! if you had the stats and the determination to even consider applying to columbia, then you should definitely be able to get in somewhere else. and apply to cornell. you never know what will happen ;)

Over the course of this year, my son has received probably 12 different mailings from the university of chicago. In the last month he has received about 6 emails from Emory.

He hasn’t applied to these schools so of course they don’t know the extent of his qualifications, they are just directing their marketing based on information they’ve bought from collegeboard or other sources.

Cornell may be a good match for you or it may not, but don’t read too much into these marketing initiatives. They are soliciting applicants, not promising to admit them all.

^ alright, thank you. i was just wondering if the reason that i’ve been getting these notifications is because perhaps cornell saw something they liked and i may have an actual chance in their admission. i am planning to apply now
